Distinction for a student from American College Arcus at a national science competition
From June 12 to 14, 2026, the city of Ruse hosted the 18th National Competition “Key Competencies in Natural Sciences” – one of the most prestigious national events aimed at developing students’ ability to apply their knowledge of natural sciences in real-life situations.
The competition was organized by the Ministry of Education and Science, the Regional Department of Education – Ruse, and the “Baba Tonka” Mathematics High School – Ruse. This year’s theme – “Natural Sciences and Sports” – challenged participants to explore the connections between scientific knowledge and sports activities through an interdisciplinary approach and practical skills.
A total of 60 students from grades 6 to 9 from across the country took part in the competition, divided into 10 teams of six participants each. As is customary, the teams were formed randomly, encouraging teamwork, communication, and the exchange of ideas among young people.
Among the worthy representatives of the country was Matey Ivalin Ivanov, a student from grade 7A at American College Arcus, who brought yet another prestigious distinction to his school. He performed brilliantly among the best young enthusiasts of the natural sciences, demonstrating in-depth knowledge, analytical thinking, and excellent teamwork skills.
With his confidence, outstanding preparation, and impressive performance, Matey deservedly received the special award “Best Performing Young Student” – recognition for his talent, perseverance, and pursuitof knowledge.
Behind this success lie a great deal of hard work, persistence, and professional support. A significant contribution to this achievement was made by his biology and health education teacher, Ms. Semiha Mehmedova, whose dedication, expertise, and ability to motivate students encourage the development of their abilities and their love for science.
We congratulate Matey and Ms. Mehmedova on their well-deserved recognition and wish them many more future victories, inspiration, and new scientific achievements!
