Meeting with Prof. Nikolai Zhelev of Abertay University
On July 31st Prof. Nikolai Zhelev, professor of medical biotechnology, paid a visit to American College Arcus. Prof. Zhelev is honorary fellow of Royal Society of Biology and Institute of Biology, member of Bulgarian National Academy of Medicine, Doctor Honoris Causa by the Plovdiv Medical University and director of CMCBR at Abertay University, Dundee, Scotland.
Prof. Zhelev met students and teachers from the school and get them acquainted with Abertay University and prospects for Bulgarian students of studying in Scotland. Inspirational findings in the areas of biotechnologies and genetic engineering by a team of scholars led by prof. Zhelev were the focus of his presentation. There was an interesting discussion on studies of human genome, genetic transformation, nutrition and regeneration of human organs with stem cells for the purposes of modern medicine.
Students, on the other hand, told about their science studies in the national and IB curricula. IB students demonstrated some experiments in the lab.
