Ralitsa Stoycheva from grade 9C with a considerable achievement in Sciences

At the Regional round of the 12th National Competition for Key Competences in Sciences the 9th-grader Ralitsa Stoycheva from American College Arcus Ltd. qualified for the finals which will be held from 15th to 17th November 2019 in the town of Koprivshtitsa. At the regional level Ralitsa under the guidance of her Science teachers Silvana Tabakova and Djena Staykova presented and successfully defended a theoretical and practical assignment on the topic Climate Change. When presenting the first part of her theoretical assignment Ralitsa took the role of a young scientist researching the effect of greenhouse gases on living beings' vital activities, specifically on photosynthesis. The second part of her theoretical assignment focused on the impact of elevated acidity levels in the World Ocean on the living beings and analyzed data about the reproduction of a pathogenic bacterium in an artificial ecosystem in a Swedish fiord. The practical assignment which Ralitsa developed and presented was in connection to the second part of her theoretical assignment and included proof of corrosion of sea mollusks' shells exposed to increasing acid pollution.
