Sculptural portraits

Under the expert guidance of Mrs Vessela Nikolova, our students skillfully coped with the task to model a portrait of a live model or from memory using plasticine and white clay. Sculptural portraits are characterized by representation of the model's character and emotional state, and the pupils did that successfully. In Ancient Egypt sculptural statues of pharaohs resembled portraits. Portraits of philosophers, poets and prominent people were common in Ancient Greece, and in Ancient Rome they had political, sepulchral, and religious purposes and were used to immortalize people.
