The American College participates in the National Students’ Conference “100 Years since the First World War” in Kardzhali
Students from 15 towns and villages participated in the National Students’ Conference “100 Years since the First World War” which was held at the town of Kardzhali from 31 October to 2 November 2014. The event was organized by P. R. Slaveykov Secondary School – Kardzali in cooperation with the Regional Inspectorate of Education, the “L. Karavelov” branch of the Plovdiv University "Paisiy Hilendarski" in Kardzali, and under the patronage of the Municipality of Kardzali. The student from 10a class Georgi Obretenov introduced two presentations devoted to the theme – “The Spring Offensive of Germany in 1918”, which he made together with his classmate Yavor Aleksiev and “Through the immortal objective of the war”, made by Leda Kuneva and Sylvia Palova from 12 IB class. The opening of the conference took place at 4 p. m. on 31 October with official speeches and a lecture delivered by Professor Andrey Pantev, as well as with a ceremony in the centre of Kardzhali on the occasion of the Day of the Bulgarian Enlighteners. The conference was held on 1 November in the building of P. R. Slaveykov Secondary School, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. The participants looked with admiration at the beautiful equipment of the school with its modern rooms. The conference was at a high level, the themes concerned various aspects of the war in two fields: The First World War and Bulgaria and The First World War and the World. Indisputably, initiatives like that contribute to the education of the young people in the national values and the apprehension of history not just as a past but as a live story telling about real people’s destinies.
